Will boxers play fetch?

Will boxers play fetch?

Postby Jacks » Sun Feb 17, 2008 10:57 am

So......

My boxer Jacks just "refuses" to play FETCH!! He's 3 years old now and compared to his brother (Choch. Lab) he's a dud :)

I've been working with him for 2 years now. Naturally our Lab Raz took right to it. By nature I assume. Raz LOVES fetch however Jacks just chases Raz and the ball and Raz then brings it back.

I guess it's a "good" thing but I'm just curious if anyone else out there has a Boxer who plays fetch?

Hello Jacks!

Yes yes yes. That's a boxer for you and yes, it's normal for Boxers to not want to play fetch

Moxee our Boxer never did get into the game of Fetch. I tried to train her for quite some time. She loves chasing the ball but refuses to bring it back to me. The only time she likes to pick it up the ball is if she know's you will chase her if she does.... She also likes to steal other dogs balls when they play fetch and then run around and get chased.

That's a boxer for ya!

It's good to see were not alone. I guess it *is* a boxer thing :)

My friends have a boxer named Jen and she won't play fetch either. But she loves to chase our cat when she is here.

Taz (My golden retriever) LIVES for fetch... Her life is completely consumed with playing fetch. Honestly I wish I she were more like a boxer but I guess Retriever's are hard wired that way :)

Yes, my Lab too loves playing fetch with just about anything. Our friends had a poodle who would get a rock and play fetch with that. Not so much sticks, she just liked balls and if she didn't have that she would get a rock and want to play fetch. Do you know any other poodles who do that?

It might have hurt her teeth, not sure? They looked ok. I never heard her complain. She just used them to pick up the rocks and didn't chew on them. I have a poodle that refuses to fetch. She sleeps most of the day or begs if we have food. She doesn't know very many tricks like our friends poodle.
