Urine Spotting Problems with my moms boxer

Urine Spotting Problems with my moms boxer

Postby PupsTx » Fri Jan 16, 2009 12:06 am

My parents have a 9 year old boxer and for the last 2 weeks she has been spotting like crazy. One minute she's OK and the next she's urinating on her pillow without even realizing it.

I think she's going into the vet in the next few days. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this or???

Thanks!

This is common in female dogs which have become spaded. Has your moms dog been spade?

Essentially when a dog is spade they no longer generate the estrogen needed to help control the bladder. Usually it takes a few years after the surgery to start happening. It happened to Razzy (my lab who passed away in 2004) when she was about 8. We had her spade when she was 5. Our Vet had us give her Synthetic Estrogen 2x a week and it took care of the problem right away.

Your mom should FOR SURE go see the vet and get it figured out. Hopefully it's something as simple as an estrogen supplement!

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the reply. guess what.... YOU WERE RIGHT ON!!!

Followed the advice and I helped my mom take the dog in. sure enough he recommended we start her on Estrogen right away.

1 Pill each day for 7 days then it goes down to 2 pills a week spread out. At 50 cents a pill, it's only a dollar a week so not a big deal.

Will keep ya updated on progress!

Oh yes!

It's amazing. Just 24 hours after giving her boxer the prescription the accidents in the house have VANISHED! Not 1 issue. It's working so well my mother is letting her sleep in the house again.

Thank you thank you thank you. soooo happy about this one!
